2023 Johnson Inc. Scholarship Program Guidelines
Background
With a Johnson scholarship behind you, you have everything in front of you. Since 1998, the Johnson Inc.
(“Johnson”) Scholarship Program (the “Johnson Scholarship Program”) has awarded over $1,000,000 in
scholarships and academic grants to students across Canada. This scholarship recognizes and rewards Canadian
students with outstanding academic achievement and community/extracurricular involvement.
Number and Value of Scholarships
There are a total of fifty (50) scholarships each valued at $1,000 available to be awarded to eligible students by
Johnson each academic year (each, a “Scholarship”) through the Johnson Scholarship Program.
The Johnson Scholarship Program is available for the bachelor’s degree and diploma level.
Eligibility
To be eligible for a scholarship under the Johnson Scholarship Program, an eligible applicant must be:
• a resident of a province or territory of Canada;
• completing high school in 2023; and
• entering full-time studies in a first bachelor degree or diploma program for the 2023-2024 academic year at a
recognized publicly funded Canadian post-secondary institution or CEGEP (if living in the province of Quebec)
(an “Eligible Institution”).
Applicants must also fall into at least one of the following categories:
• have a
o home or car insurance policy through Johnson or
o MEDOC travel insurance policy or
o group benefits plan (such as health, dental or life insurance) through Johnson
• be a member or employee of a Johnson recognized group* (policy not required);
• have a parent/guardian or grandparent who has a
o home or car insurance policy through Johnson or
o MEDOC travel insurance policy or
o group benefits plan (such as health, dental or life insurance) through Johnson
• have a parent/guardian or grandparent who is a member or employee of a Johnson recognized group* (policy
not required); OR
• be a child/grandchild of a Johnson employee or a child/grandchild of an employee within the Direct Distribution
division of IFC.
*A “Johnson recognized group” means an employer group, professional association, alumni association, union or another group that has an
insurance program agreement currently in force with Johnson.

Field of Study/Program Requirements

There are no restrictions on the program of study or discipline.
Program must be of a minimum of two years in duration.
Enrollment must be on a full-time basis at an Eligible Institution.
Applicants planning to attend a program outside of Canada commencing the fall of 2023 as part of a yearabroad program are eligible to apply provided the applicant is participating in an exchange program as part of
his or her undergraduate program at an Eligible Institution.
Conditions / Restrictions
• Students must commence their post-secondary studies on a full-time basis in September 2023.
• Completed applications not submitted in accordance with the section titled “Application Process” below may be
disqualified in its entirety.
• Johnson reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to modify, amend or cancel the Johnson Scholarship
Program at any time without further notice.
• Potential Scholarship recipients (in the case of minors, a parent or legal guardian) will be required to sign a
standard declaration and release before being awarded a Scholarship. The signed declaration and release will
confirm compliance with the rules and regulations and waive any liability of Johnson, its directors, officers,
employees, and agents, affiliates and advisors related to injury, accident, or loss or damage of any kind arising out
of participation in this scholarship program. The signed declaration and release will also include the recipient's
consent to the use of their personal statement, name, city and province or territory of residence and
photograph, image or likeness without further compensation, in any publicity carried out by Johnson or a
Johnson recognized group in respect of the Johnson Scholarship Program.
• Johnson, as provider of the Johnson Scholarship Program, reserves the right to terminate or alter these rules
at any time without prior notice.
• Entries are subject to verification and will be declared invalid if they are or become illegible, mechanically
reproduced, mutilated, forged, falsified, altered or tampered with in any way. These rules and the decisions of
Johnson which are final. All scholarship entries become the property of Johnson and will not be returned or
forwarded.
• If Johnson determines that potential scholarship entrants are experiencing difficulty or are prevented from
applying for the scholarship or receiving the scholarship due to technical difficulties or unforeseen
circumstances, Johnson may, at its own discretion, without notice to any applicant or eligible applicant, extend,
amend, modify or cancel the scholarship or otherwise adjust its management or administration for such period
of time as Johnson deems appropriate in the circumstances.
• Applicants shall have no claim against Johnson based on the failure to award a scholarship or related to the
evaluation of applications. Johnson may rescind the scholarship if the recipient: (i) does not provide proof of
enrolment in a undergraduate program as described in these guidelines, (ii) fails to meet the eligibility criteria
of the undergraduate program as described in these guidelines; (iii) has been suspended or excluded from a
school or course of study; (iv) has provided incorrect, false or misleading information or withheld relevant
information in the scholarship application or after receiving a scholarship offer; (v) behaves in any way
Johnson, at its sole discretion, deems inappropriate. If the award is rescinded, Johnson will have the right to
require the recipient to repay amounts advanced up to the value of the scholarship.

• Requests for one-year deferrals will be considered for unusual circumstances such as illness, accident, death
in the family, etc. Deferral requests must be sent to Scholarship Partners Canada (SPC) immediately when the
emergency situation arises. Supporting documentation may be requested by SPC before the deferral is
approved.
Selection Process
The selection of scholarship recipients is made by a committee of Canadian university and college representatives
chosen by Scholarship Partners Canada (SPC). Once complete, the decision is irrevocable.
Evaluation criteria:
• Academic achievement (academic average and academic awards);
• Volunteer/community involvement and/or extracurricular activities;
• Quality and relevance of the Personal Statement.
All applicants will receive confirmation by email of the results of the selection process, once available.
Successful Applicants
Successful applicants will receive confirmation of their scholarship in November 2023. Recipients will be required
to complete the online scholarship acceptance process and forward proof of registration from the educational
institution they are attending. It is the responsibility of the recipient to keep SPC informed of any changes to their
contact information through the online student portal.
Administering Scholarship Payments
• Scholarship payment will only be issued upon completion of the scholarship acceptance process and review
and acceptance of all required supporting documentation by SPC.
• SPC will forward payment of the scholarship to the educational institution on behalf of Johnson.
• It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that payment of tuition fees is made within the defined time-frame set
by the educational institution regardless of the timing of the scholarship payment.
• Payment by the institution to the student will be made in accordance with the normal practice of the
educational institution.
• Note that, depending on method of payment, receipt of payment can take 6-8 weeks following the applicant’s
acceptance of the award.
• Scholarship recipients will receive a T4A receipt from Universities Canada or their institution showing the full
amount of the scholarship paid to them during the calendar year.
• Each recipient is solely responsible for the reporting and payment of any and all taxes that may result from the
scholarship.

Application Process
The student is considered the owner of the application and must be eligible for the scholarship according to the
program guidelines. The application must be completed and submitted by the student. The student will need to add
awards@univcan.ca to their safe senders in their junk email options so that they can continue to receive important
messages from SPC.
Note: In compliance with Privacy Law, information about a student’s application will not be released to anyone who
has not been specifically authorized by the student. Third parties (parents, guardians, etc.) may contact SPC on
behalf of the student, in person, by phone, or by email, to receive information about the application but only if
authorized on the account. To add an individual to the file, the student must complete the “Access to File” section
of the application.
1. Submit an online application by visiting https://portal.scholarshippartners.ca/welcome/Johnsoninsurance_en/
2. The application, including all supporting documentation, must be submitted to SPC no later than July 27,
2023.
3. Documents will be reviewed by SPC staff to ensure all requirements have been met.
4. Receipt of applications will be acknowledged by email following processing by SPC.
5. It is the applicant's responsibility to ensure that all supporting documents have been received and accepted by
visiting https://portal.scholarshippartners.ca/welcome/Johnsoninsurance_en/ to review their scholarship
application status.
6. Account maintenance will be conducted online.
Supporting Documentation
The supporting documentation described below is required as part of the application. SPC and/or Johnson may, in
their sole discretion, request further proof or information, as required. If any of these documents are not received
and accepted, the application will be considered incomplete and will not be evaluated. Supporting documents must
be received by SPC on or before July 27, 2023.
Personal Statement
Provide a personal statement in response to the following prompt:
• The Johnson Scholarship Program recognizes and rewards Canadian students with outstanding academic
achievement and community/extracurricular involvement. Tell us why you would be a deserving recipient of
this scholarship.
Transcript
Provide a transcript of marks for the period of September 2021 to December 2022. Home school grades will only
be accepted if they have been validated through a recognized, independent evaluation process. Transcripts may
be uploaded to the online application, however, an original copy may be requested at any future time, in order to
verify its authenticity.

Documents must be uploaded by submitting an online application or sent directly to the email address below by
July 27, 2023.
PLEASE NOTE: If any of the requirements noted above are not met, the application will be considered incomplete.
Deadline extensions will not be granted.
