Center for Global Studies Nielson Undergraduate Scholarship Application
The Nielson Scholarship is awarded to one outstanding junior or senior at the University of
Wyoming who through his/her program of study has focused on internationally oriented topics
related to energy and sustainability of natural resources. Priority will be given to those who
demonstrate an interdisciplinary and international breadth in his/her course of study that
promotes development of the human resources and know-how required to solve critical
energy/natural resource challenges faced by society. This scholarship represents a partnership
between the Center for Global Studies and the School of Energy Resources to promote
interdisciplinary academic and research programs in a broad range of disciplines across UW.
The scholarship is available for use during the student’s final year in the amount of $5000
to cover resident tuition/fees for two semesters. Application Deadlines are listed on the

Applications must be submitted with the required supporting materials as ONE electronic .doc,
.docx, or .pdf file and emailed to the Global and Area Studies Program via e-mail to
globalct@uwyo.edu by the due date listed on the Center for Global Studies Web site. ONLY

Please include with your application:
1. A one-page statement identifying the course of study, research interests, and campus
activities in which you are involved, identifying your academic and career goals in the
internationally-oriented, interdisciplinary study of energy and sustainability of natural
resources and explaining how the Nielson Scholarship will help you achieve these goals.
Applications should specifically address core aspects of the School of Energy Resources
mission including how your course of study promotes development of the human
resources and know-how required to solve critical energy and sustainability of natural
resources challenges faced by society. The scholarship recipient will be asked to engage in
public programming that explains his/her year-long course of study to the UW
community, the state of Wyoming, and/or within his/her professional field of study. A
one-page report is due to the Center for Global Studies at the end of the second semester
of study.
