Part Time Position
Anatomy Demonstrator
Applications for anatomy demonstrating posts at UCL will be considered in early
August. A compulsory induction session will be run for new staff at the end of
September. Anatomy teaching at UCL runs from early October until May.
Applicants must be at least MBBS qualified (or equivalent) with a comprehensive
understanding of Anatomy. Previous experience of teaching and/or proven ability to
communicate anatomy effectively to undergraduate and postgraduate students is
essential.
Salary will be based on the Lecturer A scale, depending on experience.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Main Purpose
To teach and examine anatomy
Duties and Responsibilities
.

To have sufficient knowledge of the syllabus topics to be able to teach
anatomy to undergraduate and postgraduate students.

To help prepare, administer and mark assessments and conduct revision
sessions.

To help prepare dissections and prosections as directed by Dr Wendy Birch
or academics with specific responsibility for the delivery of parts of the UCL
curriculum.

To be familiar with the Human Tissue Act 2004 and how these relate to
anatomical examination.

To be familiar with and agree to abide by the Anatomy Laboratory local
protocol and to ensure that all work in the Anatomy Laboratory is undertaken
according to the local protocol.

To facilitate the work of others working in the Anatomy Laboratory; to
establish and maintain excellent communication links with others working in
the laboratory; to leave the Anatomy Laboratory and other general areas tidy
at the end of the day.

To be fully aware of and comply with the Department of Cell and
Developmental Biology and UCL’s policies and procedures in relation to
confidentiality, health and safety at work, COSHH regulations, infection
control, security regulations and all local safety rules regarding fire, chemical
and manual handling hazards, and to ensure that these are implemented and
followed at all times.

These duties will be subject to review in line with the changing requirements
of the Department and UCL, changes in UK regulations.

The post older will at all times follow UCL policies including Equal

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Knowledge and Qualifications
Essential:

A primary university qualification or equivalent post-graduate work
experience where anatomical studies form the major component.

Knowledge of basic sciences and anatomical sciences to degree
level.
Skills and experience
Essential:
Desirable:

Evidence of previous teaching experience at undergraduate level.

Experience of Anatomy

Ability to communicate anatomy effectively to undergraduate and
postgraduate students.

Ability to work with, and train others, as needed.

Experience of analysis of medical images such as radiographs, CT
and MRI

Practical experience of working in a multidisciplinary environment.

Experience of human dissection.

Research experience in an anatomical discipline.

Experience of a range of teaching methods.

Basic understanding of different medical imaging methods and good
image processing ability.
Personal qualities

Good computer abilities.

Flexible approach to working hours and able to work outside normal
hours.

Good health record and no criminal record.

Able to work on own initiative.
