PREMIUMS (Subject to funding by State of Illinois General Assembly) "The Department of Agriculture shall use its best efforts to secure sufficient appropriations to fund premiums. In any year for which the General Assembly of the State of Illinois fails to make an appropriation sufficient to pay such premiums, premium amounts may not be accurately reflected in this Premium Book." Premiums will be paid on the "X" factor basis. Below is an explanation of why we are using the "X" factor; how it works; and a listing of projects. Premiums will not be listed throughout the Show book. By utilizing the "X-factor" for County 4-H premiums, 4-H is assuring itself of using all money allocated to premiums without giving out more money than 4-H has. Premiums may be capped at $100 maximum per exhibitor. Basically, the "X-factor" system means: # of 4-H members eligible for premiums times the amount allowed for members by the State, divided by the total number of "X's" accumulated from the county shows and guesstimated for fall crop projects. For example: if Steer Project was paid $7 for blue, $6 for red, and $5 for white ratings, the ratings now are 7x, 6x, and 5x. 7, 6, 5x Beef & Steers Dairy Hogs Horse/Pony 6, 5, 4x Entering Electronics Goats Sewing & Textiles I, II, III Constructed Garment Sheep -3- 5, 4, 3x Clothing Decisions I & II Clover Challenges (All areas) Crops Cooking 301/Cooking 401 Design Decisions/Advanced Dog Obedience Y-51 A-E Food Preservation Meat & Other Proteins Photography 3 Public Presentations Robotics Platform Sewing & Textiles I, II Non-Garment Construction Visual Arts (Original) 52B61B, 62 - 63 Wired for Power Woodworking III & IV 4, 3, 2x Child Development II (Toys) Child Development III Cats Chickens Communications Design Decisions/Intermediate Dog Care Y-50A Ducks Entomology - Level III/Other Floriculture A - D Flowers W 1-11 Geese Geospatial Horticulture Displays House Plants Investigating Electricity Keeping Fit & Healthy II & III Outdoor Meals Photo Editing Photography 2 (W-74) Rabbits (not wildlife) Robotics (Virtual) Rock Hounds I & II Turkey (not wildlife) Vegetable Gardening Microwave Magic C & D Video/Filmmaking Welding Woodworking II 3, 2, 1x Aerospace displays All other Miscellaneous W-139 Animal Science Bicycle Child Development II (Items for Child) Citizenship Computer Science Cooking 101 Cooking 201 Consumer Savvy Design Decisions/Beginning Entomology Level I & II Entrepreneurship Financial Champions Forestry Intercultural Intergenerational (Walk in My Shoes) Journalism Keeping Fit & Healthy I Leadership Magic of Electricity Microwave Magic A & B Natural Resources Outdoor Adventures Pebble Pups I & II Photography 1 (W-73) Plant & Soil Science Robotics (Junkdrawer) Service Learning Small Engines Sportfishing Sports Nutrition Tractor A-D Visual Arts (non-original) 52A60A Wildlife Woodworking I All Others Not Already Listed -4-
